Mississippi is a young boy, a shy and timid boy. He had zero socialization skills when he came in to the shelter.
Staff and volunteers have been working very hard to help this sweet soul come out of his shell.
He now knows what love is, he knows what pets are, ear rubs and treats are wonderful and exciting things he gets to enjoy.
Mississippi would live his best life with another dog companion and someone that will help him continue to learn that people companionship can be a wonderful experience.

Chief Matt Trantham has been with the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office since 2005. Before becoming Chief Deputy, he was the K-9 coordinator since 2016. His K-9, Kilo, continues to be Chief Trantham’s partner and a successful working dog for the office. Matt and his family have a small farm with lots of goats, cows and a donkey.
My name is Lisa Gillett, HCAS Kennel Technician — I’ve been with Animal Services for 5 years. In those years, I’ve found myself becoming a 3 – time foster failure. I love working with the dogs here in the kennel, and I am a certified “Chi-rana” Whisperer. (Chihuahua Piranha)
